The Brief

KNX UK Integrator member New Land Group contributed to the creation of the Pitt Street Skate Park, a remarkable community project in Portsmouth.

With the goal of transforming an abandoned supermarket site into a cutting-edge indoor skate park, the founders secured grant funding to provide the local community with a state-of-the-art leisure space and approached Luke Newland for the design and integration of the building control solution.

The Solution

Lighting Control System:

The initial challenge was to design and install a lighting control system that would be energy-efficient, cost-effective, and user-friendly for the skate park staff. Recognising the capabilities of the KNX protocol, it was used in conjunction with a Control4 system and Dali gateways to regulate both the lighting and audiovisual components.

By programming the lighting to synchronise with the park’s operating hours, the team at New Land Projects ensured optimal energy usage.

Audio Integration:

An audio system featuring linear speakers and a tannoy system was integrated using the KNX protocol and a Control4 interface. This ensured a pleasant acoustic environment and clear communication for maintaining a safe environment for everyone.

Access Control and Data Management:

The New Land Projects team installed an access control system to monitor the number of people in the venue. By leveraging the capabilities of the KNX protocol, they developed an efficient solution that accurately tracks the occupancy levels in real-time. This information provides valuable data for park management and investors, enabling them to make informed decisions regarding the park’s operations and future enhancements.
